Been waiting for your chance to snag a Yotaphone? Well now you can, because the handset can be purchased in the UK as of today.
This fact was spotted by Pocket Lint, who also noted that the Yotaphone is priced at £419 in the UK – which is pretty much bang in line with what we were expecting, given the European launch price of €499.
If you’re not familiar with the Yotaphone, it’s an innovative device which has two screens – a 4.3in 720p display on the front, and an E-Ink panel on the back (also 4.3in in size).
The idea is that the Yotaphone fires notifications and the like up on the rear screen, so you can use that for quick glances at info, and avoid using the main display – thereby saving battery.
The phone is powered by a 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro, backed by 2GB of RAM. It runs Android 4.2.2.
While it’s a nice idea, certainly – and it’s good to see any sort of innovation with phones – we’re not convinced the Yota’s battery-saving properties are going to lead to it being a big hit. Particularly as the next-gen Yotaphone was recently unveiled at MWC, and is expected to emerge later this year with major upgrades such as a 5in 1080p display and a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 CPU.
