Were you keenly awaiting the arrival of Samsung’s Chromebook 2? Then you won’t have to wait for too much longer, as the laptop will pitch up in the UK come 1 May.
Actually, that’s not quite the full picture – if you want the black coloured 11.6in Chromebook 2, then you’ll be able to grab it on May Day, but if you want the white model, or the larger-screened 13.6in notebook in grey, then 12 May is the on sale date.
With these refreshed Chromebooks, Samsung is promising a longer battery life, and in design terms has gone for a very different faux leather look complete with stitching (it’s very different on a notebook – but it’s already used on some Samsung phones).
The 11.6in Chromebook 2 will have a 1366 x 768 resolution display, powered by a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 1.9GHz CPU, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
The 13.3in model doubles the RAM up to 4GB, has a slightly faster 2.1GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor, and a full HD 1920 x 1080 display. It’s also got a slightly chunkier battery which should last eight and a half hours, 30 minutes longer than the 11.6in Chromebook 2.
Simon Stanford, VP of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, commented: “Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing the design and features of the series to meet our customers’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security. The Chromebook 2 Series does just that, which is why we’re delighted to be bringing the devices to the UK market.”
