Heads up, gamers. The final episode of BioShock Infinite has arrived.
As promised, 2K and Irrational Games has dropped Burial at Sea – Episode Two, the third and final BioShock Infinite add-on content pack. The new DLC is available for download worldwide (with the exception of Japan) on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PCs. Those in Japan will get access later this year.
Burial at Sea – Episode Two was built "from the ground-up" by Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock and BioShock Infinite. It will conclude the storyline of BioShock Infinite and Burial at Sea, as seen through the eyes of new character Elizabeth. It features new "stealth-oriented gameplay" as well as new weapons and modes.
In a statement, Irrational Games Creative Director Ken Levine hyped up the new chapter, saying it "speaks for itself."
"We built something that is larger in scope and length, and at the same time put the player in Elizabeth's shoes," he said. "This required overhauling the experience to make the player see the world and approach problems as Elizabeth would: leveraging stealth, mechanical insight, new weapons and tactics. The inclusion of a separate 1998 Mode demands the player complete the experience without any lethal action. BioShock fans are going to plotz."
BioShock Infinite is, naturally, not included in the add-on content pack, but is required to play it.
The release comes about a month after Irrational Games announced plans to shut down. "Seventeen years is a long time to do any job, even the best one," Levine said in February. Levine will "be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavour at Take-Two," keeping about 15 members of the Irrational staff on for this project.
