In particular with the iPhone 6, of course, the smartphone will carry the fingerprint sensor of the current iPhone. That will be important in ensuring an extra element of security for mobile transactions.
Looks like the Apple will be unveiling a new digital wallet (opens in new tab) alongside the iPhone 6. Mobile payments have been a big talking point this year, and if Apple throws its weight behind the bandwagon we could see the technology take a giant leap forward in consumer consciousness.

As the iPhone 6 launch date rumbles ever closer, day by day, yet more leaked images (opens in new tab) of the (purported) handset have spilled onto the internet.
These come from a source which has previously posted alleged pics of Apple's upcoming smartphone (opens in new tab) – namely Feld & Volk, the luxury iPhone modder – and were once again spotted by MacRumors (opens in new tab).
Check out on of the pictures below.
Previous rumours of the new iPhone 6 being shipped with a reversible lightning USB cable have apparently been confirmed. Check out the video below!

According to one mobile industry pundit, Apple is looking to pitch its 5.5in phone at $800 (opens in new tab), which would probably translate to close on £700 in the UK...
Will it be worth it?
- 12 August
We're starting to get a pretty complete picture of what this phone is going to look like...
Following yesterday's leaked images which showed the iPhone 6 in its retail box, another set of (alleged) pics has been spilled out onto the net (opens in new tab), this time the source being a Taiwanese Apple site.
- 11 August
Over the weekend, more (alleged) leaked images of the iPhone 6 (opens in new tab) reared their head, although this time the pics are certainly pretty convincing looking, featuring the handset and its retail box.
And here it is!

It's another day, and another iPhone rumour, although this one is a biggie making multiple claims including a much speedier A8 processor (opens in new tab).
The other major detail concerns the display, and the question of sapphire, or no sapphire glass. After all of the fuss surrounding the exotic new screen substance, this source is saying no sapphire, although the screen will be fashioned from an "extremely hard material" which is better than Gorilla Glass in terms of durability. Perhaps it will indeed be some kind of blend of sapphire and traditional glass (opens in new tab), which previous buzz has indicated.

A user posted this supposed image of the back of the iPhone 6 online - but is it fake? Some commenters have called it "faker than fake", with others saying "There's no way Apple would produce such a laughable product."
What do you think? Real or fake? Apple's latest flagship or obvious Photoshop job? Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
Apple will apparently be launching its new iPhones on 9 September (opens in new tab), which is just four weeks from next Tuesday.
This is according to Recode, which states that Cupertino has gone ahead and scheduled a "big media event" for that day, and obviously that will see the new iPhones unveiled (although some folks are still sceptical on whether the 5.5in phablet model will actually be realised).
- 01 August
The iPhone 6 will go on sale mid-October, according to the latest rumour from those allegedly in the know concerning Apple's sales strategy.
The launch event will happen on Tuesday 16 September, according to the source who spoke to MacRumors, and Tuesday 14 October will be the on sale date. This comes direct from an Apple retail store meeting, apparently. It isn't clear whether this would just be the 4.7in iPhone 6 hitting shelves, or both that and the 5.5in phablet version.

What are your thought on the iPhone 6? Will it be the next big thing or an embarrassing flop for Apple? Let us know in the comments section below.
The latest speculation concerning the screen of the next-gen iPhone claims that the idea of a sapphire glass display has been dropped for now (opens in new tab), though later models may still use it.
Apple's mobile wallet payments service may be coming as early as this autumn (opens in new tab) according to reports.
The Information has suggested that the service could launch with the release of the iPhone 6, enabling users to pay for goods with the device.
According to the latest rumour, the larger 5.5in iPhone 6 isn't being delayed due to manufacturing difficulties (opens in new tab) with the screen, but rather as part of Apple's sales strategy.
Since Steve Jobs' death, Apple's competitors have been getting bolder. With the launch of the upcoming iPhone 6 coming in September, a number of high profile rivals have been snapping at Apple's heels with aggressive marketing, attack ads and a general lack of respect for the venerable giant of mobile technology.
Here are a couple of hints that Apple's competitors are sensing a weakening of the giant (opens in new tab).

Apple iPhone 6's September unveiling has been all but confirmed (opens in new tab) by sources close to the company with the biggest indication yet that the new smartphone is well on the way to stores.
Sources briefed on the plans quoted by 9to5Mac stated that it is "tentatively" planning a keynote address in the second or third week of September that will announce the iPhone 6 as well as the final details on iOS 8.

Here's Brownlee's video in full!
In other slightly disappointing news, a new test of the alleged 4.7in iPhone 6 display has shown that it's likely a blend of sapphire and traditional glass (opens in new tab), rather than pure sapphire.
The next iPhone will be Apple's thinnest ever, it seems, with component manufacturers working on slimming down multiple elements including the battery!

It's looking increasingly likely that the next generation of iPhones will launch on 19 September. No, we're not just plucking out a random date. Here's our reasoning... (opens in new tab)
- 24 June
One source also mentioned something we've heard before – that the phablet is more difficult to produce (due to complications with the larger display, according to previous reports), and will suffer from a lower production efficiency that could lead to lesser manufacturing volumes.
The latest news in suggests that Apple is set to crank up mass production of two larger iPhones (opens in new tab) in July - 4.7in and 5.5in handsets.
- 19 June
Rumours suggest that the next generation iPhone will be able to measure altitude and predict weather information (opens in new tab)with the inclusion of a barometer for the first time.
Information regarding the iPhone 6's new features have been light on the ground so far, but if the latest suggestions are true, then there are a number of potential applications for the new sensor.

The new iOS 8 will display small icons for various apps such as Starbucks and the Apple Store (opens in new tab) on the lock screen to provide easy access in order to facilitate purchases. Is this a good way forward for the iPhone 6?
Other developers have reported that the feature isn't just limited to Apple's own stores or other major retail partners with one Twitter user reporting that an app for a train station pitched up on the lock screen whilst at the location.

How is the new iOS 8 going to affect the iPhone 6? Let us know in the comments section below!

Ahead of Apple's WWDC conference next week, a photo of what could potentially be the official iPhone 6 chassis has been leaked online (opens in new tab).
Australian blog MacFixIt, who obtained the image, says it did so from sources inside the supply chain. Whilst on first glance it looks like Apple is turning all its iPhones mint green, MacFixIt claims that the grassy hue is thanks to a plastic wrapping covering the device for protection. Underneath, the iPhone 6 will be silver.
According to Redmond Pie, the German network Deutsche Telekom has been telling its customers that the release date for the next iPhone will be 19 September (opens in new tab).
As Redmond Pie points out, though, there's a good chance this is educated guesswork rather than an actual firm release date which Deutsche Telekom has got wind of. Assuming a September release, Apple always goes for a Friday (and an over the weekend sales spike), so the third Friday of the month is a good bet.
Anyone hoping that the iPhone 6 would feature a beautiful liquidmetal exterior might be disappointed. It's apparently unlikely that LiquidMetal will play a part in the construction of the iPhone 6 (opens in new tab), which we expect to make an appearance in September, but it's certainly possible that it will debut on next year's range of devices - which could include the fabled iWatch.
What we do expect to see on the next iteration of the iPhone is a sapphire screen, which should be more hard-wearing than the glass currently in use.

Apple has officially announced that it has acquired Beats Electronics, and the Beats Music streaming service (opens in new tab), for a total outlay of $3 billion (£1.8 billion) – subject to the usual regulatory approval jazz.
Are we going to see Beat integrated with the iPhone 6?

Apple will equip the iPhone 6 with a 1,704 x 960 resolution retina display (opens in new tab) that ups the ante on many of its larger screened Android rivals.
People briefed on the iPhone 6 specifications told 9to5Mac (opens in new tab) that Apple is preparing a major resolution change that will require software changes by both developers and Apple.

If these pictures are anything to go by, it looks like Apple has a significant redesign in the works...
New images allegedly showing the 4.7in iPhone 6 (opens in new tab), which is due out in August according to the rumour mill, have been leaked onto the net.
Mashable spotted these pics which were published by the Taiwanese website Mos Coat.
- 09 May
Apple is going to launch its new iPhone 6 in August (opens in new tab), the rumour mill claims, with a second phablet iPhone to follow in September.
Traditionally, Apple launches its new iPhone(s) in September, and that was expected to be the case this year, but a report in the Economic Daily News of Taiwan (as spotted by Reuters) is claiming that a 4.7in iPhone will pitch up in stores come August.

Apple's latest innovation is to put heart rate sensors in its earpods (opens in new tab), allowing the smart headphones to monitor your blood pressure – or at least that's the latest rumour doing the rounds.
What do you think? Real deal or just more gossip?

We chatted with Visa Europe's Jon white earlier this year (opens in new tab), who said, "I think all the banks would really welcome Apple moving into the payments space. To see NFC functionality in their devices would be fantastic."
I think most of us would probably agree.
Have your say via our poll below:
One debate that's sure to rage on (probably until the iPhone 6's launch) is whether Apple's next flagship will feature NFC technology or not (opens in new tab). It seems an easy, fool-proof way for the company to make its oh-so-fiercely loyal customers even happier (and more gloaty) than they currently are.

Most of the company's 2014 activities will be teased at WWDC 2014 (opens in new tab), which will take place in San Francisco from 2-6 June. It's now unfortunately too late to apply for a ticket but don't be too disappointed - ITProPortal will be covering the big event as it happens.
Obviously, Apple isn't only planning on outing its latest version of the iPhone this year. We're also expecting iOS 8, some form of wearable device, a new iPad, OS X 10.10 'Syrah' and plenty more (opens in new tab).

Kicking off another year of rumours and gossip, photos leaked to the public on Chinese social network Weibo appear to show the Apple iPhone 6 production blueprints.
The blueprints display a 4.7 inch screen, and some other telling features. The chassis with its curved edge seems virtually identical to older models, though, and includes the home button embedded with a fingerprint sensor.
Take a look at our full rundown here (opens in new tab).
