Remember Samsung's Galaxy Beam, a smartphone from a couple of years back? Well, we'd previously reported on a sequel which was alleged to be underway for the Chinese market – and this has turned out to be true, with the device now officially launched over in China.
The Galaxy Beam 2 packs a 1.2GHz quad-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a 4.7in display with a pedestrian 800 x 480 resolution.
However, the star attraction is the built-in pico projector which can be used to project your YouTube videos (or anything else) onto any nearby flat white surface (hence the "Beam" name). As we found in our review of the original handset, though, the projector was of pretty ropey quality, making it of limited use – whether or not the sequel improves matters much isn't clear.
Engadget notes that the phone is now on sale with China Mobile, but it's not very likely that we'll ever see the handset over here, and thus be able to find out if its projection capabilities have been enhanced.
You never know, though – and we'll certainly keep our ears out for any hint of the Beam 2 going international.
