Samsung has announced the launch of its Knox 2.0 enterprise security solution.
Samsung notes that the Knox platform now encompasses multiple products aimed at tackling the needs of enterprise and BYOD security, and thus the original Knox product launched last year is now called Knox Workspace – and Knox 2.0 includes Knox Workspace, EMM, Marketplace and Customisation.
Knox Workspace is now available across the globe for Samsung Galaxy S5 handsets, and Samsung says that Knox 2.0 will be rolling out to other Galaxy devices over the coming months.
So what new features can IT managers expect? Knox 2.0 boasts improvements in terms of core security aspects, as you would hope, including Real-Time Protection for System Integrity, TrustZone-Protected Certificate Management and Two-factor Biometric Authentication.
As well as better safety and security for mobile data, an improved interface is also promised. The Knox container will support all apps from the Play store (so no more app-wrapping for third-party software), and Knox 2.0 will boast extra convenience in terms of moves like split-billing (which allows for separate bills for personal apps and work apps, and less headaches for the accounts department when it comes to BYOD).
JK Shin, head of Samsung's mobile business, commented: "Knox has been widely deployed by enterprises since it became first commercially available in the market in September 2013. As a result of this rapid adoption, we needed to evolve the Samsung Knox platform to directly address the ever-changing needs of the enterprise as we demonstrate our commitment to protect and respond to future enterprise mobility and security challenges."
