Instapaper is one of those services that people rave about. Once they've started using it, some people wonder how they ever managed without it. Instapaper saves stuff from the web for you to read later on – including when you are offline. More than that, it works – and synchronises – across a range of different devices. That includes the usual suspects like the iPad, iPhone and Android devices, and some less usual ones like the Kindle Fire.
The look is clean and clutter-free – as you would expect from an app that majors on reading and not on looking at fancy graphics. In fact, the app just downloads text from your chosen sources and avoids the other stuff. You can adjust the font size so that if you have difficulty reading text at its usual size on your handset, your needs can be accommodated. There are screen designs for reading in the day or at night, and tweaks like filtering items by how long they will take to read helps you make the most of your time.
There's the inevitable social element too. You can post to the likes of Twitter and Facebook as well as many others, and share stuff with Evernote if you use that particular app.
