There have been plenty of rumours already concerning the compact version of the Galaxy S5, and another has broken cover, this time with more detailed specs and even some images which allegedly show the S5 Mini.
The S5 Mini is undoubtedly coming – Samsung always produces a smaller sibling for its flagship to pick up more budget conscious customers, and those who prefer a more compact handset – plus it was leaked on Samsung's Finnish website (albeit minus any official specs).
And the purported specs according to this latest leak – which was imparted to SamMobile by an anonymous tipster – tallies with one key spec we've heard before, namely the 4.5in 1280 x 720 display. The phone will also allegedly have an unannounced Exynos 3470 chip running at 1.4GHz (whereas previous speculation had pointed to a Snapdragon 400), backed up with 1.5GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage (with microSD for expansion).
The cameras will be 8 megapixel with a 2.1 megapixel front-facer, and the OS Android 4.4.2.
One point to note is that going by the pics, there's no flap for the USB port, casting doubt over whether the S5 Mini will have the same IP67 waterproof and dustproof spec as the flagship handset – although the rubber gasket is shown inside the rear cover.
There is, however, a fingerprint and heart rate sensor on the device as with the full-fat Galaxy S5 – so corners haven't been cut here, if this leak is on the money. We'll find out soon enough...
In other Samsung news, the company unleashed its Galaxy K Zoom smartphone/camera hybrid at the weekend.
